Alta Planning + Design, Inc. is an international consulting firm with a mission to create active communities. We plan, design, and implement infrastructure and programs that improve community and individual health, safety, mobility, and livability, such as bicycle, pedestrian, trail, park, green-way, and roadway planning, design, and implementation, as well as outreach and education. We are recruiting for an entry-level Programs Specialist to join our Portland, OR office.

Summary + Overview 
If you are passionate about helping people bike, walk, and use transit more often, this position is for you. As a Programs Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting a Project Manager to plan, implement, and evaluate Active Transportation and Transportation Demand Management (TDM) programs.

This entry-level position will support all types of transportation campaigns, including the following:
– Media campaigns
– Education programs
– Outreach, marketing, and communications
– Bicycling/walking event planning
– Safe Routes to School programs

Responsibilities + Tasks
Along with our provided support and training on consulting, on the active transportation field, and in developing your professional skills you may be asked to complete the following or similar tasks:

– Research and write memos for clients
– Take notes during meetings and follow-up with a summary and list of action items
– Meet with stakeholders and partners to learn more about communities where we work
– Develop and implement work plans for events or programs
– Write and distribute communications (e.g. email, social media posts, and website content)
– Work closely with our graphic design team to create print and digital products (e.g. brochures, postcards, and flyers) by providing copy, content revisions, and review of products
– Draft and administer evaluation surveys
– Data entry and data analysis
– Write final reports and evaluation summaries
– Conduct outreach to the public about bicycling, walking, and transit options

Required Skills and Qualifications
– Outstanding organizational skills
– A valid driver’s license
– Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
– Two (2) or more years of experience conducting outreach to the public
– Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Drive suite of tools; ability to create and use Excel/Google spreadsheets
– Two (2) or more years of experience with web-based email clients and survey tools, such as Mailchimp and SurveyMonkey
– Proficiency in clear and creative copywriting for public communications, such as social media posts and outreach materials
– Multilingual applicants with native-level proficiency specially Spanish preferred but not required
– Ability to travel for work for 1-3 days at a time in state and out of state accompanied by an Alta Senior Staff Member
