Alta Planning + Design, Inc. is an international consulting firm with a mission to create active communities. We plan, design, and implement infrastructure and programs that improve community and individual health, safety, mobility, and livability, such as bicycle, pedestrian, trail, park, green-way, and roadway planning, design, and implementation, as well as outreach and education. We are looking for a temporary part-time Programs Specialist to join our Seattle, WA office.

Summary + Overview 
If you are passionate about helping people bike, walk, and use transit more often, this position is for you. As a Programs Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting a Project Manager to plan, implement, and evaluate Active Transportation and Transportation Demand Management (TDM) programs.This position is located in Seattle, WA, and will support one specific project whose goal is to improve access to transit for King County residents through a number of innovative transportation programs. Alta’s role is to develop and implement outreach, communication, and media efforts.

Responsibilities and Tasks
Along with our provided support and training on consulting, on the active transportation field, and in developing your professional skills you may be responsible during the course of an average week to complete the following or similar tasks:

– Researching and writing memos
– Taking notes in meetings and following up with a summary and list of action items
– Meeting with stakeholders and partners to learn more about communities where we work
– Developing and implementing work plans for events or programs
– Doing on-site outreach (tabling, intercept surveys, and/or street teams)
– Writing and distributing communications (e.g. email, social media posts, and website content)
– Working closely with our graphic design team to create print and digital products (e.g. brochures, postcards, and flyers) by providing copy, content revisions, and review of products
– Drafting and administrating evaluation surveys
– Writing final reports and evaluation summaries
– Data entry and data analysis
– Outreach to the public about bicycling, walking, and transit options

Required Skills and Qualifications
– Outstanding organizational skills
– A valid driver’s license
– Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
– Two (2) or more years of experience conducting outreach to the public
– Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Drive suite of tools; ability to create and use Excel/Google spreadsheets
– Two (2) or more years of experience with web-based email clients and survey tools, such as Mailchimp and SurveyMonkey
– Proficiency in clear and creative copywriting for public communications, such as social media posts and outreach materials
– Ability to represent King County Metro to the public in a professional manner
– Multilingual applicants with native-level proficiency specially Spanish preferred but not required
– Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, sitting, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, kneeling, and/or lifting up to 35 pounds

Most work will take place during business hours, but the position will require some early morning, evening, and/or weekend work for events. Office work will take place in downtown Seattle and the field work will require travel throughout King County. You will not be compensated for travel time and expenses to the office worksite, but additional travel expenses (e.g. to/from events or outreach) will be reimbursed.
