The Land Trust for Tennessee (“LTTN”) is an accredited non-profit land conservation organization with offices in Nashville and Chattanooga. LTTN has protected over 125,000 acres through more than 380 conservation projects across Tennessee. The position is based in Nashville and offers an impactful, demanding work opportunity at one of the region’s premiere conservation organizations.

 

Position Overview

The Education Coordinator is a 30-hour per week position that develops and leads the agricultural, conservation, historic and experiential educational programming of LTTN currently based at the 64-acre Glen Leven Farm, and will expand offerings both programmatically and geographically over time. The ideal candidate will be an experienced, dynamic teacher with a record of innovative teaching and curriculum development, including leading hands-on, place-based, and experiential learning.

 

Active Education Duties:

– Work with communications and engagement team on promotion of educational programs

– Work closely with the Glen Leven Farm Steward and the Glen Leven Farm Historic Tour Coordinator to plan and execute agricultural, conservation and historical programs for all ages

– Schedule, develop and manage volunteer trainings for field trip programs

– Set schedule of seasonal field trips, recruit and schedule volunteers

– Present field trip information to schools, home school groups, afterschool programs

– Manage all waivers, fee collection, gate access, parking, signage, first-aid, inclement weather plan communication, supplies and other logistics for field trips and tours

– Lead all field trips and most educational programs

– Conduct surveys following each educational program

– Working with LTTN team, schedule, design and manage at least three open days at Glen Leven Farm and one open day at Conner Toll House per year

 

Education Administration and Development:

– Enhance existing curriculum for grades K-4, ensuring that programs meet state curriculum standards

– Enhance and expand educational programming to include curriculum for middle and secondary school students and other age and interest groups (e.g. retirees, special interest clubs)

– Lead curriculum development planning meetings and discussions with LTTN staff, teachers and volunteers

– Develop a revenue-generating summer day camp experience and/or summer farm intern program

– Working with Development staff, write successful grants for program development and support and write associated reports and acknowledgements

– Create and manage detailed budgets for each education program

– Serve as point of contact for MTSU Center for Historic Preservation and other Glen Leven-specific high school and college interns

– Seek new, creative elements for educational programs to keep them relevant, attracting repeat and new participants

– Develop and implement plans to grow programmatic impacts (revenue, attendance and awareness)

Experience

– Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or a related field

– Several years of teaching experience, ideally at a variety of grade and age levels

– Place-based curriculum development experience

– Ability to capture and hold the attention of diverse audiences

– Volunteer management and engagement experience

– Proven grant writing experience

– Meaningful experience with farming, conservation, horticulture, and/or history

– Proficient in MS Office

– Project management experience
