Under the supervision of the GIS Supervisor the Business Intelligence GIS Analyst will be an integral team member of the Business Intelligence Division (GIS, Data Analytics, EAMS). This position will primarily support the advancement of technology adoption, process improvement/automation, complex data analysis and dashboarding, mobile/web app creation, and enterprise system support as needed.

The Business Intelligence GIS Analyst will be a technical lead and as such will perform duties, projects, and tasks with minimal oversight and exceptional professionalism. This position will be expected to perform duties independently and within a team environment depending on project needs.

Essential Duties

  • Identify and establish technology centric process improvement opportunities districtwide leveraging spatial and non-spatial tools.
  • Lead a range of diverse projects, using lean and agile project management techniques, as the technical subject matter expert.
  • Conduct spatial/non-spatial data analysis, data visualization, automation, web/mobile app configuration and development, dashboarding, etc.
  • Exploit opportunities to leverage location intelligence and disrupt common ad-hoc, paper based, and/or redundant practices to transform and advance business practices.
  • Create and establish technical standards and standard operating procedures which set clear organizational expectations for system, program, and data governance environment.
  • Model workflows for data, business, and application processes; make recommendations and advise staff on options and outputs.
  • Meet with users to define needs, project requirements, and project outputs; analyze GIS needs of all departments and implements GIS programs, databases, and related products for MPT departments and partnering agencies; assist in preparing and coordinating project scopes, procedure flow-charts, and schedules with MPT staff and external partners.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software problems as they relate to GIS and Data Analytics; provide or recommend appropriate solutions and keep current on the latest hardware and software.
  • Analyze and evaluate operations and make recommendations on GIS program direction and procedural modifications; develop or assist in developing policies and procedures for GIS processes.
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Minimum QualificationsEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Four (4) year college degree in GIS, Geospatial Science and/or Technology, Data Science, Computer Science or a similar and like field with comparable academic qualifications necessary to excel within the position. At least 2 years of professional work experience related to the duties listed above.

LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

DESIRED COMPETENCIES & EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience working with ESRI suite 10.X and above (ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, ArcCatalog etc.) including ESRI Enterprise.
  • Specific and measurable experience working with ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server services, and integration with native ESRI mobile/web apps as well as partner apps.
  • Demonstrable experience working with advanced data visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, Sisense, and/or ArcGIS Insights.
  • Experience automating tasks and workflows using Python, Model Builder and/or other Technique’s to best meet needs of organization.
  • Experience with or able to quickly learn predictive analysis languages, such as R to develop insights and detect informative patterns to support business decisions.
  • Measurable and demonstrable experience extracting and transforming data from complex datasets into web/mobile maps and apps, dashboards, and other data visualization tools.
  • Experience interacting/working within Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio as well as query and reporting services within SQL such as SSRS or Transact SQL.
  • Demonstrable experience leading projects – Establishing project timeline, schedule, and scope as well as managing stakeholder communication.
  • Exceptional customer service experience, and proven track record of ensuring customer success via verbal and written communication, approachable and positive demeanor, and positive overall experience from customer perspective.

Additional Information

  • This position will primarily be within an office environment however it may occasionally require working outdoors in inclement weather and unsteady ground to assist other BI staff if necessary.

  • Able to work in a team environment with others with the Business Intelligence Division or with colleagues within the organization.
