Drafter / GIS Technician II
Description
Performs tasks related to the maintenance and upkeep of the Whatcom County Assessor’s Office Property Data/Assessment database and/or GIS database. Evaluates legal documents and performs the process of segregations of parcels, calculates acreages, separates appropriate values, and assigns new parcel numbers before updating the Assessor’s Office property database.
Drafts maps of completed proposals and land conveyance transactions such as land segregations, short plats, surveys, subdivisions, lot line adjustments, roads and annexations, or taxing district boundaries, using GIS drafting techniques and computer automated cadastral mapping software.
Prepares GIS maps according to specified criteria to support customer service and the Assessor’s Office business enterprise operations.
Determines land ownership changes and enters change data into the Assessor’s Office database.
Responds to questions from the public, developers, government officials and members of the business community over the telephone and at a service counter about land law and county procedures within the scope of assignment or refers to the appropriate information source.
Assists private and government coordinators of property data in their use of Assessor’s Office mapping, map library inventory and computer database information.
Performs archival and records searches for information pertinent to assignments as needed.
Researches, collects and analyzes complex or diverse information and data specific to the Assessor’s Office, Property Data/Assessment database and/or GIS database. Maintains, updates, audits and reviews the GIS database to ensure accuracy.
