The Opportunity:
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking an individual knowledgeable in and passionate for public transportation and it’s various modes that are available for use. As the agency’s Employee Transportation Coordinator, this position is responsible for carrying out all duties associated with encouraging and supporting employee use of non-SOV modes for commute and business purposes. To achieve these objectives, this position leads WSDOT’s statewide employee transportation program and statewide WSDOT internal telework, compressed work week and flex schedule efforts.

Furthermore, this position serves as a technical expert and independently conducts planning assignments on WSDOT’s modern work environment effort. This includes conducting planning assignments related to statewide, multi-agency, multimodal transportation demand management programs. These include ORCA benefits, stakeholder groups, statewide and Thurston County CTR, Practical Solutions, and other related transportation demand management and CTR initiatives.

This position will perform the following work:

  • Lead the comprehensive statewide Commute Trip Reduction program including developing performance targets and developing and delivering work plans and strategies to achieve them.
  • Provide program management and delivery, engagement, data collection and reporting.
  • Verify agency headquarters parking pass, vanpool and transit participant eligibility, and verify statewide incentives benefit for the payroll office.
  • Provide planning support to other transportation demand management and public transportation efforts.
  • Conduct planning studies, policy analysis, project delivery and engagement.
  • Lead the team that provides modern work environment participation to executive management and OFM.
  • Develop performance targets and develop and deliver work plans and strategies to achieve goals associated with the agency telework options, compressed work week and flex schedules.

At a minimum, candidates for this position must possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree involving a major study in transportation, landscape architecture, environment or urban, regional or land use planning, engineering, public or business administration. (Master’s degree will substitute for one year of required experience)
  • Three (3) years of professional transportation expertise involving analysis and evaluation of transportation issues and problems. (Analysis of environmental issues and problems that involve transportation issues will also be considered qualifying experience. One year as a Transportation Planning Specialist 2, Transportation Engineer 2, Landscape Designer 2, or equivalent classification in city or county agencies Or equivalent education/experience will be considered.)
  • Project delivery experience, including performance measurement, analysis and reporting.

In addition to the above requirements, the following are desired qualifications:

  • Transportation demand movement experience and training, including development and delivery of employee commute trip reduction, telework, compressed work week, flex schedule and work environment programs, policy development and implementation.
  • Employee and community engagement experience.
