Position Description

The May There Be Gardens & Garden Support Intern gains hands-on experience in community building & garden building by supporting the Victory Garden Project (VGP) team in coordinating our annual “May There Be Gardens” event in May and constructing backyard gardens with low-income families in our community. This position will support the VGP Leadership Team by coordinating and executing our annual spring fundraiser and culminating build season event “May There Be Gardens”.  This will require recruiting and coordinating teams of volunteers, following up with prospective event sponsors, maintaining communications with volunteers, gardeners & sponsors, and facilitating a post-event wrap-up and evaluation. We will be building gardens in the Lacey area this year to further integrate the Veteran’s Victory Farm with the VGP program.

This position will assist the VGP Team to construct some of the 40 backyard gardens that will be built throughout the Spring Quarter. You will work closely with other interns, volunteers as well as receive support from the Cultivation Manager, VGP Coordinator,  Victory Farm Manager and any other staff helping manage the event. The VGP May There Be Gardens & Build Support Intern is a part-time, unpaid, learning position with the possibility of earning college credits.

Time Commitment

January 7th – June 1st , 2020

15 hours per week, Monday—Friday, flexible schedule, evenings and weekends as needed, including focused hours around the May 2nd “May There Be Gardens” event

KEY Position Responsibilities

• Develop May There Be Gardens outreach materials, including volunteer packets & sponsor signage

• Drive the VGP truck and lead teams of volunteers on garden builds

• Coordinate all aspects of the May There Be Gardens event with support from the VGP team as needed
