Environmental Specialist 3

 

The Environmental Assessment Program (EAP) provides a range of scientific, monitoring, laboratory, and quality assurance services.

The program’s Directed Studies Unit in Lacey, WA is looking to fill an Environmental Specialist 3 position. This position serves as a staff environmental specialist performing one or more of the following functions independently with little direction and supervision: performs, coordinates, implements and evaluates scientific analyses, plans or services involving office or field projects; conducts surveys, analyses and records field conditions; project administration and environmental technical assistance for grants/contracts/loans; gathers and analyzes information to develop recommendations and make decisions in conducting water quality monitoring projects in Western Washington.

Some of the duties include:

  • Plans, develops, researches, and conducts or oversees TMDL technical data collection and analyzes, evaluates, and interprets data; analyzes and/or interprets information requirements and coordinates information gathering for a team or other assignment outside of a team; writes QAPPs, reports and reviews draft reports.
  • Conducts water quality monitoring projects using appropriate scientific knowledge, including project scoping, monitoring plan design (including setting project objectives) and field work.
  • Independently performs environmental monitoring/sampling and provides guidance for surveys, field studies or other special data gathering activities.
  • Uses scientific knowledge to determine database/inventory requirements and may design and/or develop databases/inventories to be utilized in support of technical projects.
  • Ensures project data is accurately entered into the agency data repository.
  • Serves as the senior field investigator for the unit.
  • Reviews quality assurance project plans and other reports prepared by consultants, conservation districts, tribes, counties, and others for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with agency objectives.
Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

A Bachelor of Science degree involving a major study in environmental, physical, natural sciences, or other closely related field AND two years of professional level experience in environmental studies/analysis.

A Master of Science degree in one of the above fields will substitute for one year of the required experience.

OR

A Ph.D. in one of the above fields.
