Title: Communications & Events Manager
This full-time job is located in Olympia, Washington. The Washington Food Industry Association (WFIA) is a small, busy business association that provides advocacy and educational services to its members.
This position contributes to the overall mission of the association by planning, coordinating, producing and implementing communications activities in support of all association activities, as well as plan and
manage events and develop member educational opportunities.
Performance Expectation:
- Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading and graphics formatting skills, and a strong command of the English language, grammar and sentence structure.
- Well organized and able to manage multiple projects on deadline, working within tight timelines.
- Able to effectively engage with policy issue experts and translate highly technical documents into layman’s terms.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and an ability to interface at all levels within the association and with its various publics.
- A proactive mindset with a high level of commitment, motivation and dedication. Good independent work habits and problem-solving abilities.
- Maintains professional personal appearance and conduct reflective of the WFIA brand and image.
Communications:
- Developing and implementing plans to communicate WFIA policy messages to key audiences including members and non-members, the Legislature, media and the public.
- Working with other staff in the development, editing and distribution of WFIA bi-weekly e-newsletter, annual report, legislative review and new laws, special bulletins, press releases, op-eds and other communications opportunities.
- Producing content for a variety of other association projects, including the web site, presentation talking points for the president, Power Point presentations and multimedia campaigns for external audiences for member outreach meetings and educational opportunities.
Highly skilled in all forms of social media to ensure the association has a strong online presence on social media outlets for policy issues and events.
- Tracking media and online outlets coverage of WFIA events, activities and issues. Identify unanticipated communications opportunities in print and electronic outlets.
Meeting and Event Planner:
- These responsibilities are focused on the logistics for association meetings of various size and complexity in locations throughout Washington State.
- Development and management of member educational webinars.
- Development and management of short weekly WFIA topical YouTube messages.
Job Qualifications
Degree in communications or journalism with three years of experience practicing in the public relations, marketing or related field in which the candidate wrote press releases, long-form articles
and email newsletter copy as well as reported to management is required.
Experience planning events of all sizes and meeting coordination is required.
Strong skills in social media use and planning is highly desired.
Understanding of the Legislature and legislative process is highly desired.
Experience working with or in a statewide membership association is desired but not required.
- Must be able to travel occasional for meetings throughout the year. This requires overnight stays (1-2 nights) at meeting sites.
- Must have a Washington state driver’s license and a reliable automobile that can transport meeting supplies.
- Must be able to lift heavy boxes and perform physical activities such as setting up tables and A/V
equipment and moving supplies.
Reports to: President/CEO.
Status: Exempt
Salary and Benefits: Salary range is $ 3,400 – $4,000 per month, DOQ. This position includes medical insurance, paid vacation and medical leave time.
