Introduction — historical relationships.

March 26th, 2011 · No Comments · Introduction

The three bi-lateral relationships included in this study — Japanese/Korean, Japanese/American and American/Korean — shaped by specific areas of tension. These are evident in the places students visit, as are attempts being made in all three countries to mitigate the tensions. Photos of the different sites help illuminate these legacies. These in no way represent complete histories, just a few sample images.

Between Japan and Korea one legacy that remains is of the years of colonization.

Between the US and Korea one legacy that remains is of the enormous impact of US policy on the original and continuing division of Korea into two nations

Between the US and Japan one legacy that remains is of the impact of the Tokyo War Crimes Tribunals and justice in the face of war time brutality

Between the US and Japan there is also the legacy of the A-bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
