To participate in this study abroad program you will want to make some important preparations prior to the trip. Please join the predeparture planning meetings on 4/14, 5/25, 6/15 4:30-6 pm in Library classroom 2610– and make sure you have:
1. Valid Passport
Make sure that you have a valid passport with at least six months remaining validity beyond June. If it is expired or if you don’t have one at all, apply now at the nearest post office or UPS with your birth certificate and photos. It will take more than one month to get one mailed back to you or longer. As an American passport holder, you can visit Taiwan without a visa for up to 90 days. You do need to arrange for a short term student visa if you plan to also travel to China.
2. Health Insurance
Make sure that you are in good health condition and have travel health insurance, which will cover your illness and accidents while you are in Taiwan. Bring the information such as the name of the insurance, your policy number, emergency contact number for the authorization of treatment abroad. Keep your immunization record up to date and have a copy of your record ready.
3. Non-Refundable Deposit
Make a non-refundable deposit of $300 before May 10 on line or at the Cashier’s Office in our summer study in Taiwan and China program account. The deposit will be used toward your program fee and lodging reservation. The deposit will be returned in such case if the program and study trip is canceled.
For ease of planning and logistics, the program organizer prefer that all program participants travel together and arrive in Taiwan at the same time. Exceptions to this plan will be considered and accommodated. Please contact the faculty organizer about alternative flight itinerary.
4. Suggested Packing List
Please start thinking about what is important for you to bring with you on the trip. See this Suggested Packing List as a starter. The faculty will also provide Useful Information at the planning and pre-departure meetings to all of the participating students. Please read and use them as you prepare for your trip.
