Week 1 Mushrooms

I purchased

• 12 pack of quart sized Mason jars with wide mouths
• a bag of Poly-fil stuffing
• One bag of Blue Oyster mushroom spawn
• One bag of Shiitake Mushroom spawn that is supposedly acclimated to growth on straw.

The Material Poly-fil is used to create air exchange filters in the lids of the mason jars. Poly-fil is used because it is a plastic based material that does not absorb water through capillary action and will hold its form while being pressure cooked.Filter lids are constructed by making a small hole in the center of each mason jar lid and stuffing poly-fill tightly into each hole. Excess poly-fil is removed from either side of the lid.
