The Sustainability Office at Pacific Lutheran University is hiring a temporary position to help with recycling efforts.  The job description is listed below.

POSITION:

RECYCLING TECHNICIAN (Temporary) – Facilities Management

NOTICE DATE: June 2, 2014
CLOSING DATE: When a sufficient number of qualified candidates have been identified.
SALARY: S02; Non-exempt; $9.90 – $10.69 per hour, DOE
WORK SCHEDULE: FT; Temporary position; Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 4:00pm
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:Pacific Lutheran University has one of the best recycling programs in the country. Nearly 80 percent of our waste is either recycled or composted. The Recycling Technician will provide the operational support needed maintain and enhance recycling programs at PLU. The Technician will be primarily responsible for collecting the recycling from buildings across campus, including special events. Reports to the Manager of the Office of Sustainability.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:ü  Serve as point of contact for recycling and event work orders.

ü  Perform and help with disposal of paper recycling, compost, and office recycling.

ü  Primary contact on environmental issues such as hazardous material management.

ü  Coordinate tasks, work orders, and maintenance in a timely manner.

ü  Move furniture to or from office locations, Goodwill, or recycling.

ü  Support recycling efforts throughout campus by working with campus organizations, Pierce County Refuse, and other community services.

ü  Maintain and evaluate equipment service and repair.

ü  Perform other duties as assigned.

ü  Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work to provide prompt and efficient support to the office.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed primarily driving to collect recycling and sorting outdoors under cover.
  • Will be occasionally exposed to wet and or humid conditions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to bend, reach, stoop, and kneel in the completion of normal cleaning duties.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move 25 to 50 pounds unassisted and occasionally lift or move over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Must possess good hearing and vision.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:1.    High School Diploma or GED.

2.    Valid Driver’s License (Must have had a valid driver’s license for at least 2yrs).

3.    Finalist candidates must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background check and pass PLU’s Driver’s Certification Training.
