Job Announcement, Olympia WA: Temporary/Part Time (June 2016 – October 2016)
SPSSEG: GIS Fisheries Technician

Start: June 15, 2016 or sooner
Part-Time Seasonal: Monday-Friday 20-30 hours per week

Salary and Benefits: Compensation will be $17-$25 per hour depending on qualifications. There are no other employee benefits offered at this time. The position is 3 to 4 months long. There is an opportunity for an extension, based on additional grant funding.
Supervision: Position reports to the Executive Director
The South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group (SPSSEG), a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, has a position open for a temporary/part time GIS Fisheries Technician. Position Summary: The GIS Fisheries Technician supports SPSSEG’s mission by working on planning and monitoring projects. The work will be split between the field (~50%) and office (~50%). The position includes long hours during the field seasons which are typically July – October. The GIS Fisheries Technician reports to the Executive Director.
Typical Duties Include:
GIS mapping and technical support
Collect and manage data
Oversee LiDar data analysis and ecological data sets
Manage data for habitat surveys, fish sampling, and snorkel surveys
Collaboration and data coordination with multiple project partners
Regular data reporting to project management team
Other tasks as needed

Qualifications:
1. Education: A degree in GIS, natural resources, and/or related degree in process
2. Strong team leader with proven ability to motivate others
3. Organized, self-motivated and strong attention to detail
4. Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities
5. Diplomatic problem solving skills
6. Good natured team player, comfortable working with diverse groups of people
7. Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs and experience using GIS and databases
8. Ability to perform physical labor in all weather conditions including hiking up streams, planting trees, wading through moving water, and carrying equipment into the field.
9. Access to personal vehicle and ability to travel (reimbursed for mileage at the current WA State rate)
Desired Skills or Demonstrated Interests
• Experience doing field work, GIS data collection and processing (ARC 10.3 and ARC pad)
• Passion for salmon and working with non-profits
• Extensive knowledge and skills related to stream restoration and salmon habitat needs
