The Opportunity:  The Headquarters Environmental Services Office Wetland Program is searching for a dynamic, independent thinker, and leader for their Restoration Crew Supervisor position. This project position based out of Tumwater, WA. supervises the Headquarters’ Restoration Crew and coordinates with region site managers to address deficiencies. This includes planning and implementing activities at environmental mitigation sites and roadside restoration sites statewide. This project is scheduled through June 2019.

 This position will perform the following work:

  • Serve as the supervisor for wetland field staff, mentoring and performing performance reviews.
  • Plan and coordinate implementation of management activities by field staff at environmental mitigation sites and roadside restoration sites, ensuring compliance with permits.
  • Review daily work logs, safety records, pesticide application records including review of aquatic herbicide applications.
  • Maintain electronic database of restoration crew work activities and herbicide application records.
  • Plan adaptive management strategies on environmental mitigation sites statewide with data from field reviews and collected by the wetland monitoring group.
  • Coordinate site field reviews, prepare reports of site management activities and develops site remediation and management plans.
  • Participate in training sessions, seminars and meetings sponsored by governmental agencies, universities and professional organizations.
  • Prepare and present graphic presentation on proposed and completed projects.


An ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Washington State Department of Agriculture public applicator license with aquatic endorsement.
  • Ability to identify a wide range of native plants and invasive and noxious weeds.
  • Ability to work in dense vegetation, streams, tidal channels, and wet areas.
  • Must be able to have exposure to insects, plant toxins, heavy traffic, construction equipment, and other hazards.
  • Perform manual labor including lifting and manipulating up to 50 pounds, in inclement weather, through uneven terrain and slopes.
  • Ability to wear fall restraint harness and work in high places.
  • Ability to operate and maintain small gas powered equipment.
  • Ability to present information and educational materials in front of a diverse group of people.
  • Travel and stay overnight for up to three times per month.
  • Valid driver’s license
