Keeping Washington Clean and Evergreen
Protecting Washington State’s environment for current and future generations is what we do every day at Ecology. We have a culture that is invested in making a difference. If you want to join a team that is highly effective, collaborative, with leadership that embraces the value of people, Ecology is a great fit.

The Air Quality Program (AQP) is looking to fill a Greenhouse Gas Engineering Specialist (Environmental Engineer 2) position. The position will be located in our Headquarters Building in Lacey, WA.

The Greenhouse Gas Engineering Specialist position is located within the Climate Policy Section (CPS) of the Air Quality Program, which provides environmental services to understand and reduce carbon pollution and protect public health and the environment. This position supports the mission of the agency and program by providing engineering analyses and assessments, policy support, and recommendations for program guidance to implement the Clean Air Rule (CAR), a regulation capping and reducing carbon pollution in Washington. The position conducts engineering analyses for facilities covered by the CAR and recommends carbon emission reduction requirements for those facilities based on these analyses. The position reviews and analyzes emissions and compliance data submitted to the agency for a variety of facilities and processes to confirm quality and accuracy. These analyses are used to ensure that emission reductions are real, permanent, and quantifiable.

We are looking for applicants with strong technical, analytical, and reasoning skills, the ability to communicate with a diverse or unreceptive audience, and a dose of healthy skepticism. Strong applicants will have experience with or ability to quickly learn about industrial processes and their associated greenhouse gas emissions.

As an agency, our mission is to protect, preserve and enhance Washington’s environment for current and future generations. We invest in our employees to create and sustain a working environment that encourages creative leadership, effective resource management, teamwork, professionalism and accountability.
