WETLAND SCIENTIST, PWS – Senior Level

Join us in the beautiful Pacific Northwest as a key player in our Natural Resources Group. Hart Crowser, Inc. is seeking a Senior Wetlands Scientist to work in our Portland, Oregon office. It is anticipated that this position will lead one or more markets within our Natural Resources Group. Our highly skilled engineers and scientists serve public and private entities in Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii. We currently specialize in permitting and compliance for upland and waterfront projects, habitat restoration/mitigation planning, and related biological studies.

Qualified Candidates Will Have:

  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) license;
  • 15+ years of consulting experience in the Natural Resources industry;
  • Proven history of successful market and revenue generation in the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, or Hawaii;
  • Experience with client, employee, and business management for large projects;
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to natural resources;
  • MS or PhD from a recognized university in one of the life sciences (biology, ecology, natural resources, environmental science), or related field;
  • Proficiency with biological field sampling and survey methods, vegetation and management methods, wetlands and riparian ecology, and state and federal environmental regulations;
  • Ability to work independently within a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Desire to mentor junior staff;
  • Experience with both private and public sector clients/projects;
  • Working knowledge of GIS and database management; and
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with plant community and rare plant surveys and mitigation, aquatic habitat and fisheries related work, and NEPA/SEPA document preparation.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with other professionals in the industry Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) license.
  • Generate significant new and independent business through strong marketing skills.
  • Conduct natural resource analysis and assessment of potential project impacts.
  • Develop permit/mitigation strategies and negotiate permit conditions with state and federal entities.
  • Lead restoration planning and evaluation.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team in preparation of high quality client work products.
  • Ensure division growth and revenue generation.
  • Track and position our team for key projects.
  • Develop opportunities through existing and new networks and maintaining positive relationship with clients.
  • Plan, communicate, and manage projects on time and within budget.
  • Write technical reports, collect data, and conduct survey field work.
  • Perform wetland identification and delineation investigations.
  • Prepare associated biological/habitat assessments, delineation reports and management plans and prepare environmental permit applications.
