Today, I’m excited to tell you about a few upcoming workshops specifically for MES students that will be offered Winter Quarter. These are optional opportunities to help you develop skills for success in MES and beyond. All workshops will be led by MES Program Staff (AKA: Andrea and Averi!). Here we go:

January 18: Resume Writing

This workshop is specifically for students who are not yet working on their thesis. Learn tips and tricks for writing a great resume with a focus on job and internship opportunities you may be interested in while completing your MES. There will be a short presentation and then we’ll do hands-on practice! Bring two copies of your resume, and, if you have one, the description from a job or internship you’d like to apply for. Meet in Sem 2 A1105 from 4:00 to 5:30

February 1: Excel Basics

Has it been a while (or your whole life) since you’ve used Microsoft Excel? In this workshop you’ll learn the basics of navigating Excel efficiently. You’ll get familiar with the layout of the software and learn functions like copying and pasting data sets, entering formulas and performing basic calculations within Excel. Meet in the Computer Applications Lab from 4:00 to 5:30.

February 22: Excel Part 2

Now that you’re comfortable with the basics, get direction in more complex functions of Excel. We will be working with a data set to generate charts and figures. By the end of the workshop, you should feel more prepared to sort your data for use in other programs like JMP. Meet in the Computer Applications Lab  from 4:00 to 5:30

 March 8: Writing Evaluations

If you’re not quite sure how to write a self or faculty evaluation, come to this workshop to learn more! We will discuss the strategy behind the content to include in your self evaluation and the decision to include these in your transcript (or not). Current students will lead the conversation and share their experience. Meet in Sem 2 A1105 from 4:30 to 5:30
