|Position Summary||This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time, intermittent (approximately 10 hours per week as needed) Education Program Assistant 1 position for Sea Grant at Oregon State University (OSU).
The Hatfield Marine Science Visitor Center is a museum/aquarium open to the public. It is through this facility that many of the Sea Grant Extension marine education programs are delivered. A wide variety of workshops, field trips, and short courses are offered for the public, school teachers, K-12 students, and other youth groups.
The Education Program Assistant 1 (Marine Educator) presents marine science labs and programs for the K-12 school audience, other youth and family groups. This position carries out and assists with a variety of field trips, labs, youth programs, and provides other education assistance as needed.
The work of this position is carried out on a varying schedule and on an as-needed basis during the busy season (Mid March- Mid August).
|Position Duties||70% Preparation and presentation of laboratory and field programs for school groups, other youth groups, and families as needed.
25% Cleaning and maintenance of labs and equipment and the appropriate care and use of marine animals associated with education programs.
5% Attend staff meetings, trainings and workshops.
|Minimum Qualifications||High School Diploma or equivalent and at least two years of relevant experience (paid or volunteer), supporting community programs that serve children, youth, or adults
OR Associate Degree and one year of work experience (paid or volunteer) which must be working in youth development programs, adult education, teaching, program delivery or related functions
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated skill to work with diverse audiences.
Demonstrated skill to use computers for word processing, data management, and communications.
|Additional Required Qualifications||This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months. Offers of employment are contingent upon meeting all minimum qualifications including the Criminal History Check Requirement.
This position requires driving a University vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the University; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030. Offers of employment are contingent upon meeting all minimum qualifications including the Motor Vehicle Check Requirement.
|Preferred (Special) Qualifications||Bachelor’s degree in science, education or other related field.
Training in interpretive education, marine biology, and physical science.
2 years biological science and/or K-12 classroom experience.
Evident commitment to cultural diversity and educational equity.
Current First Aid/CPR certification card or must acquire one at own expense within 6 weeks of hire.

|Working Conditions / Work Schedule||The position is indoors and outdoors, standing for long periods of time and includes some mild hiking.
Employee will be working with marine invertebrates and fish around seawater.
|This position is deemed essential and the incumbent may be expected to report to work during inclement weather, emergency and other University work curtailments or closures.||No|
