Volunteer and Education Program Manager

 

The North Olympic Salmon Coalition (NOSC), a 501(c)(3) non-profit, seeks a full-time Volunteer and Education Program Manager. NOSC promotes robust wild salmon stocks for families, fishers and local economies by furthering restoration and education on the North Olympic Peninsula of WA. Full‐Time: Monday-Friday 40 hours per week, some evenings and weekends. Part time hours may be negotiable for the right person.

Salary: $30,000-$36,500 per year depending on experience.

Benefits: May vary depending on hours worked – Sick, vacation and holiday. Medical insurance and retirement.

Location: Port Hadlock, WA. NOSC’s focus area extends from East Jefferson to Clallam County along the Strait of Juan de Fuca on the Olympic Peninsula. We are 5 minutes from the beach, Olympic National Park is in our back yard, and we are three hours from Seattle and two ferries away from the San Juan Islands.

 

 

Position Summary

The Volunteer and Education Program Manager supports NOSC’s mission by managing a suite of well- respected education and volunteer programs across age groups. Working closely with and leading staff teams, partners and volunteers is critical to carrying out a breadth of programs and activities. Education program management will be for all programs across the region, volunteer and outreach program focus is primarily in the eastern part of NOSC’s region.

 

Core Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead the Real Learning Real Work 7th grade education program and all other NOSC education events (see nosc.org/education for other education programs).
  • Manage volunteer programs including recruitment, training, support and appreciation of new and returning volunteers. Focus is in the eastern part of NOSC’s region, with a counterpart staff covering the western
  • Provide training to both field and education
  • Coordinate and carry out outreach activities including speaking engagements, festival booths, and community events; create outreach materials including fliers, press releases, and monthly email newsletters.
  • Support creation of vibrant social media presence, contribute substantially to monthly newsletters and local media outlets.
    • Seek and obtain funding for education programs through grants, foundations, donations. Write and track budgets, prepare grant reports, adhere to grant
  • Participate in fundraising

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Experience working with youth and adults in an educational setting
  • Strong team leader with proven ability to motivate others
  • Excellent communication, public speaking and writing skills
  • Grant writing and reporting experience, budgeting experience
  • Organized, self-motivated, strong attention to detail
  • Diplomatic problem solving abilities
  • Good natured team player, comfortable working with many types of personalities
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs and experience using databases
  • Website and social media experience
  • Ability to perform physical labor in all weather conditions including hiking up streams, planting trees, wading through moving water and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Access to personal vehicle and ability to travel and work evenings and weekends (reimbursed for mileage at the current WA State rate)

 

Desired Skills/Demonstrated Interest

  • Passion for NOSC’s mission
  • Experiential education and/or inquiry-based learning experience
  • Experience recruiting, training, working with and thanking volunteers
  • Knowledge and skills related to stream restoration and salmon habitat needs
  • Knowledge of native riparian plants and their growing requirements
