Position Summary:

The Washington Coast Sustainable Salmon Foundation (Foundation, a/k/a Coast Salmon Foundation) Board of Directors is seeking an Executive Director.

The Executive Director works to increase support and understanding to help advance salmon recovery and overall watershed health while balancing diverse interests among stakeholders.

The Executive Director leads a small, effective team of employees, contractors and volunteers and represents the Foundation in local, state, and federal technical and policy forums. Job responsibilities include the full range of managerial functions, including managing financial, personnel and facility needs. Primary responsibilities also include securing grants and funding from state, federal, and private sectors; interagency coordination; public outreach and education; and media relations.

This position requires strong communication and writing skills, and a firm working knowledge of natural resource and land use policy.

The Washington Coast Sustainable Salmon Foundation is a Washington State 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. It is the fiscal sponsor of the Washington Coast Sustainable Salmon Partnership
(Partnership, a/k/a Coast Salmon Partnership), comprised of the Lead Entities within the Washington Coast Salmon Recovery Region. The Executive Director will be working closely and consulting with the Partnership.

This is a full-time, exempt position based out of Aberdeen, Washington.

Duties:

 Work with the Foundation Board to develop and implement a mission, a vision, and an annual work plan to make a difference in coastal salmon conservation.
 Administer meeting schedules, support materials, notes, records, and document retention, in accordance with Foundation Board policies and any applicable laws.
 Manage staff, volunteers, and contractors. Provide liaison between team members and Foundation Board.
 Manage financial operations: development of budgets, securing contracts, and making payments as needed, subject to Foundation Board approval.
 Ensure facility needs relevant to maintaining a functioning office such as rent, supplies, equipment, and utilities are met.
 Represent the Foundation Board at local, state, and federal technical, legal, and policy forums
 Coordinate interagency projects and committees including public outreach, education, and media relations.

Desired Qualifications:

 Prefer a master’s degree and at least 4 years of experience in related fields of natural resources or public administration. Equivalent experience will be considered; e.g., a bachelor’s degree and
six or more years of experience in these fields.
 Experience with principles and practices of natural resources planning and policy
 Experience in public speaking and advocacy.
 Experience in fundraising, grant and proposal writing.
 Experience with project development and program management.
 Ability to travel to other cities for meetings (will need Washington State driver’s license within reasonable time of commencing employment).
 Ability to be a self-starter and to multi-task.
 Physically able to maneuver to field project locations, and to work at a computer for extended periods of time.
 Ability to maintain a composed and professional demeanor.
 Proficiency with Microsoft Suite of Office programs.

Compensation:

 Salary range from $70,000 to $95,000, dependent on experience and qualifications.
 Benefits include national holidays, approved vacation and sick days, and health insurance (covered up to 75%).
 Approved travel is compensated at rates established by Office of Financial Management of Washington State.
