Position Summary
The Washington Coast Sustainable Salmon Foundation (Foundation, a/k/a Coast Salmon Foundation) Board of Directors is seeking a Salmon Recovery Program Director. We are a Washington State 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and the fiscal sponsor of the Washington Coast Sustainable Salmon Partnership (Partnership, a/k/a Coast Salmon Partnership), comprised of the Lead Entities for salmon recovery within the Washington Coast Salmon Recovery Region (Region).
The Salmon Recovery Program Director is the technical lead for salmon habitat protection and restoration within staff of the Foundation. The position reports to the Foundation Executive Director,
and interfaces with its Board, staff, and the Washington Coast Sustainable Salmon Partnership (Partnership, a/k/a Coast Salmon Partnership) Board of Directors. The position also works closely with applicable state and federal agencies, tribes, local jurisdictions and nonprofit organizations to develop and/or implement complex salmon recovery, watershed, and environmental resource plans, programs, and policies. The job requires a strong background in the sciences related to salmon, as well as in policy, funding, contract management, computer, and communication skills.

This is a full-time, exempt position based out of Aberdeen, Washington.
Duties
Advise the Executive Director and the Foundation Board on policy and technical matters related to salmon habitat protection and restoration throughout the Region
Administer and oversee Coast Salmon Partnership committees
Expand funding streams for regional project implementation; administer these and existing funding programs regarding salmon habitat or watersheds, including budget oversight,
contracts, field tours, project ranking, and reporting on these to the Foundation and Partnership Boards
Coordinate with federal and state agencies, tribes, local governments, resource and community interests regarding salmon habitat plans and recommended actions.
Coordinate and conduct technical research, evaluations, and assessments needed to support decision-making
Develop and coordinate outreach and education programs related to salmon habitat
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
Desired Qualifications
Master’s degree preferred, in disciplines related to salmon habitat restoration, environmental or regional planning, with 3-5 years of experience in these fields. Bachelor’s degree in said
disciplines with increased levels of experience considered
Excellent communication skills, written and oral. Position involves complex and sensitive issues among other parties working on salmon habitat directly or indirectly
Experience with program planning and oversight, and committee work
Self-starter with the ability to multi-task and work independently on multiple projects
Ability to work with public, Foundation and Partnership Boards, staff and others in a professional manner, and to maintain a composed demeanor
Ability to research and interpret applicable laws, regulations, procedures and policies
Ability to develop or apply for, and to administer complex funding programs, and to oversee budgets and reporting for these
Ability to maintain a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the organization, including travel to field locations and other cities for meetings (will need Washington State driver’s
license within reasonable time of commencing employment)
Ability to work in front of computer for extended periods of time
Ability to access field project locations in diverse terrain and weather conditions
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and GIS systems and applications, especially ESRI ArcView software
Compensation
Compensation is dependent on experience and qualifications. Salary range is from $60,000 to $80,000. The position includes sick, holiday, and leave pay in addition to 75% of health insurance costs. Compensation for per diem (mileage, lodging, meals, etc.) will be covered by the Foundation Board at the rate established by the Office of Financial Management of the State of Washington for all supervisor-approved travel. This is a full-time exempt position.
