Responsibilities

As Deputy Field Supervisor of the the Carlsbad, Sacramento or Washington Fish and Wildlife Offices, you will

· Serve as a manager, leader, and supervisor of multiple divisions ranging in grades from GS-5 to GS-14, to provide technical, scientific, and policy support to program activities. Programs include: Habitat Conservation Planning (Section 10 habitat conservation plans), and Interagency Cooperation (Section 7 Consultations). Listing and Recovery (listing, critical habitat, 5-Year Reviews, Recovery Plans), Environmental Contaminants, and Conservation Partnerships, etc.

· Direct and oversee work through multiple subordinate supervisors; advising Field Supervisor, ARD, Deputy and Regional Director) on sensitive and multi-faceted program management matters and issues; ensure equity among the Divisions within the office; direct a multi-million dollar program; and implement actions which eliminate barriers adversely affecting efficiency of field office operations

· Provide guidance to subordinate office supervisors to plan overall work, establish work schedules and priorities, make assignments, and review work. Assist the Field Supervisor in setting priorities for resource programs, including allocation of office budget and personnel ceilings to accomplish programs.

· Provide expert advice and assistance on development of regional and national policies, plans, and programs, on issues of importance to the Service, particularly those which may affect State, National, and International environmentally sensitive relationships and on difficult and complex resource issues that often require innovative approaches.

· Represent the principal official in top level communication, coordination, and participation with high level officials of Federal and State agencies, Tribal officials, and representatives of local government offices to express Service policy, negotiate firm cooperative positions and programs to provide increased protection and enhancement of fish, wildlife, and their habitats.

· Advise Interior officials on policy-level issues.
