Below is a great opportunity for any current MES student with further information included in the attachments above.
Climate Change Assessment Workshops
Help wanted with two workshops focused on capacity building for Native Americans responding to climate change.
- Are you interested in helping tribes adapt to climate change?
- Are you intrigued by the many services that natural systems provide for us?
- Are you a good listener and a detailed-oriented note taker?
- Would you like to co-produce a manuscript for publication?
If you answered yes to these questions then we have an opportunity for you!
Come join researchers from the University of Washington, Oregon State University, and the US Forest Service while they discuss how climate change is projected to impact tribal lands and identify the many economically and culturally important ecosystem services they provide. Then help us identify adaptation options with tribal members and staff, drawing on traditional knowledge when appropriate.
We are looking for someone to help with capturing the discussion from the workshops, writing up the outcomes, and potentially helping draft a manuscript suitable for publication in a scientific journal.
We will be having two workshops – the first on October 12, 2017, in Tacoma (the day after the NW Climate Conference), and the second on December 13, 2017 in Spokane.
If you are interested please contact John first (witheyj@evergreen.edu) asap (by 9/27/17 at the latest) and he can give you more details, answer any questions, and put you in touch with Michael.
John Withey (MES core faculty) previously worked with Michael Case, a research scientist at UW. Michael is leading a project on “A Climate Change Assessment of Vegetation, fire, and Ecosystem Services for Tribal lands in the Pacific Northwest.”
