ROLE OVERVIEW

The Sustainability Coach will serve directly with the Sustainability Manager to increase environmental awareness and facilitate sustainable choices through door-to-door, “knock- and-talk” conversations, meetings with community members, and events or workshops with the goal of reducing individuals’ environmental impacts. The member will help achieve this goal through direct environmental education and outreach. Please note that this position is contingent on funding.

TERM OF SERVICE

  • September 2017- July 2018

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Engage residents in a historically underserved Tacoma neighborhood about sustainability topics through door-to-door conversations, social media, community meetings, and events/workshops
  • Recruit and manage interns and volunteers
  • Prepare outreach materials and help to build a sustainability marketing campaign
    • Coordinate partner organizations and resources to address local quality of life and environmental sustainability priorities
  • Implement events and workshops in response to community feedback
  • Prepare outreach and event data
  • Report implementation findings to partners and public

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Age 18 to 99
  • College graduate
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including confidence with public speaking
  • Knowledge of and passion for environmental issues
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Availability for evenings and weekends PREFERRED:
  • Knowledge of Tacoma area and community
  • Experience in event planning and marketing
  • Spanish or other language skills
  • Consistent access to a vehicle

COMPENSATION

  • Monthly stipend of $1,195 before deductions and withholdings
  • Education award of $5,815 upon completion of service
