Visualizing Wind Speed and Direction

VALCEX:  a VISTAS WebGL prototype.

During the 2013-14 academic year, Kendra Schmall (Willamette Univ) implemented WebGL visualizations of wind speed and direction for Christoph Thomas, using Jerilyn Walley’s thesis data.  Taylor Mutch, then also a student at Willamette (and now a software engineer at Conservation Biology Institute), then made significant modifications.   See Kendra’s senior thesis Site.

In October, 2014, Vir implemented a version of VISTAS as WebGL, just for fun.  To run it, go to “vistas webgl“.  In the unlabeled drop down box, click on “eastern oregon”.

The browser uses [threejs] for rendering with Angular framework.  On the server side he used nodejs combined with a heavily modified version of VISTAS.
